Sheltie Fun Fact:
According to the American Kennel Club, the Shetland Sheepdog originated in the Shetland Islands of Scotland, which is also how they got their name!
The islands rarely get harsh snow. Instead, they get relentless, wind-driven rain with almost nothing to block it. That's why a Sheltie's coat has two jobs split between two layers: the long outer coat repels wind and rain, while the soft undercoat handles the insulation. Shetland sheep evolved that exact same two-layer system to survive the same weather!
